OUR SUPPLICATION

Just like every family’s yearn and desire; just like every newly wedded couple’s eagerness to own or have a house in order to shelter their children or would be children; it is also the aspiration of all faithful   of the Holy Martyr St. Eleftherios Greek Orthodox Church here in Gubat, Sorsogon, Philippines to have a permanent place of worship.

Orthodox people especially children or Cradle Orthodox (which means Orthodox since birth) here are now beginning to ask their parents on when are they going to experience a real temple or sanctuary. It is already six years now that the community has been transferring from one place to another. This spiritual formative stage is very critical in the lives of the faithful especially the young ones. For Orthodoxy teaches us that experience is a vital part of catechism and in living up the ethos of the Church. Sacraments that are being served to the faithful are good experiences for them to nurture. However, they also need a basic symbol - a Church building, a permanent house of prayer and worship that will serve not just a mere sign, but as tangible and vivid symbol of Orthodox Church’s presence in this location - a rallying point. This will not only boost the morale of every faithful, but also the identity of the parish which will serve as beacon of light to those in search of the true Church of Jesus Christ on earth.

With all faith and humility, this is the supplication of the parishioners: “Surely I will not enter my house, nor lie on my bed. I will not give sleep to my eyes or slumber to my eyelids. Until I find a place for the Lord. A dwelling place for the Mighty One of Jacob” (Quoted from Psalm 132:3-5). It is for many years now that all faithful parishioners have been supplicating for this grant from God. May the Lord have mercy on us and soon give His blessing.

We are inviting all sincere and faithful Orthodox to join with us in prayers and supplications for the realization of the said permanent place of worship. Through prayers and actual material help, together we continue serving our God Almighty. Kyrei Eleison.
